The game was extremely close the whole way through and was alot of fun. We both made some tactical mistakes and both had some really terrible rolls to add to that but all in all it was a pretty even match up. I came out victorious this time but it was very much down to the wire at the end. Here are the details, once again if memory serves correctly:
Round 1:
I got the roll to go and deploy first and so turn 1 in a given round will always be my turn.
Turn 1:
Moved my jacks up into position running like I normally do with the DJ off to the side of the rest of my army. This time however, in order to match a little bit of his setup I split my harrower slightly off to the opposite side of my DJ. Leaving the middle ground to be handled by the seether and slayer.
Turn 2:
He moved his stuff into formation and pretty much attempting to setup a large blockade of sorts forcing me to come in and attack while leaving him safe to use his redeemer to keep slowly picking me away until I did something about it.
Round 2:
Turn 1:
I made the plan that I would use my harrower to get a kill and then overrun (spell from morty cast by Deryliss) to run one of my jacks into position to severely damage his avatar of menoth and use the other jack after to do more damage if need be. Sadly I rolled really terribly on my harrower and he failed to kill the target forcing me to rethink my plan. I decided to send in my slayer on a death run. He got a great hit in though destroying the sword arm of the Avatar of menoth, which was very damaging to his hitting power.
Turn 2:
He started as I expected and killed my slayer followed by his first attempt to heal his avatar of menoth resulting in a failed roll leaving the avatar swordless for the turn and really hurting his plans of attack. He played pretty cool with it though and prepared some stuff for the DJ that I had coming in on the side lines.
Round 3:
This is when the game really picked up pace and sadly is also the part I remember the least amount of because it was kind of crazy. During this turn I sent in a warwitch to spray attack and kill a vassal of menoth and one of the mechanics, this was a great strike for me because it forced him to choose which of his two big jacks he would be granting buffs to for the remainder of the fight leaving one open to assault. I then put the DJ in an attack position for the following round and killed a guy with my harrower. This time the overrun went off correctly and sent my seether rushing into what I thought was a good attack position. Sadly it turned out to not be as good as I wanted and the seether didn't get to attack, instead having to back off slightly to get into a good attack position for next round.
Turn 2:
I honestly dont remember a large amount of what happened during this turn sadly. During this turn he moved his templar up putting him in a threatening position a little too close to Morty for me to like.
Round 4:
Turn 1:
This was the big do or die round for me. I had to pull out all the stops to make sure that I killed him or I was going to die. I realize while writing this right now that I think I skipped a round but I don't recall well enough so the details might seem a little wonky.
I had my DJ about 1.5 inches from his avatar at this point but he was Black Oiled thanks to Gorman (such an annoying ability) so he was not able to move on his own to get the avatar kill. With Gaze of Menoth I had to kill the Avatar or I would not be able to move my seether in for a charge on his caster. So I had to use Overrun again with my harrower. This turn because it was so vital I popped my feat which allowed me to reroll attack and damage rolls. The harrower got his target and overrun worked to get DJ into kill range of the avatar where he proceeded to destroy him. This opened up the charge lane for the seether to go for the kill on his caster. With 3 focus on the seether and none on the caster it was pretty much a given that I had the game at this point.
This game was one of the best I have played for warmachine to date. It was very tight and intense the entire game. I hope that I get more like this one in the future.
