Shadowrun session

I haven't really ever talked about my RPG sessions to date so now is as good a time as any. I currently play in 3 different RPG campaigns.

  • I play Shadowrun as a Shaman with some house rules setup to make me very much like a summoner in that I specialize in dealing with the spirits (or elementals) of the game.
  • I play a Pathfinder campaign in which I am a level 5 Alchemist who is intent on making riches via branding "Garka's Sweet water" which is basically soda from back in the day when Coke had drugs in it.
  • I play a second (almost finished) Pathfinder campaign in which I play a summoner class at 10th level. This character is an inventor and engineer. Known through out the world for creating a small mechanical pet bird sold to the rich and poor alike.
Last night I played a good session of Shadowrun. Currently I play this game with 4-5 others, one of which as of late has been rarely showing up due to personal issues. My party consists of:
  • My friend Steve is doing GM work for this one and so far he is doing an excellent job.
  • My wife (Sheila) is playing a crazy Street Samurai, these are people that have had massive amounts of augmentation done to them to make them capable of being pretty amazing assassins. She deals in heavy melee and pistol damage during a fight and functions much like a bouncer outside of a fight as her arms have been completely replaced with metal ones (think Jax from MK). It is a fairly odd thing to picture though, as she is also a petite 19 year old girl who has lost all connection with the real world and believes she is the star of an action super hero movie. She also loves steam punk and runs around in steam punk armor. It's quite the sight to see.
    • I couldn't find a good pic for reference at the moment but I will have her find one for you guys.
  • My friend Rob is currently playing a military commander very much akin to the leader from A-team. He is all about being tactical and planning for any angle, which turns out to be very funny in many of our sessions because the rest of the group is not at all like this. My character tends to just like to deal with issues head on and thus stealth and tactics don't really get played in very much making for some very comical situations. The same happens with sheila as normally she considers herself an action movie star and thus "will win". He is also a huge smoker and fills the role of tactician and ranged support for the team.
  • Jen plays a sniper and driver who lost her sister to slavery early on in life and has since been a human smuggler to get children out of slavery. She is quite good with a sniper rifle and has shown in the past to be very capable when driving as well. Though sometimes she scares the rest of us as she is a major adrenaline junky and thus things like "going to the store for food" have the chance to become exciting adventures.
  • Tom is another friend and he is the one who currently shows up rarely. He plays a technomancer (magical hacker, think neo from the matrix) who is addicted to soda and loves hot pockets. He basically fills the roll of the nerdy hacker who doesnt bathe and is out of shape but is amazing with a keyboard.
So onto the session now. To catch you up to whats happening in the campaign to this point. We are in an underground city that is pretty much stuck in the 1980s. The people are ruled by some kind of goat people and have not seen the sun in what seems to be generations. Most of the people live in what amounts to slums and children are left to fend for themselves in a giant trash dump until they are taken by the rulers of the land for some reason which we have yet to figure out. Because of Jen's attachment to children and saving them we got mixed up in this whole thing. We had just recently found out that there is a resistance force and were helped by one to find out that the ruling party believes in some kind of "oracle". We decided that this oracle would need to be found and dispatched. So we went off to a building that looked to be a library where we might have been able to find some information on where she would be.

We found an archaic computer and lots of interesting information. While Tom was attempting to hack the computer to see what information he could gain from it we were attacked. The attacker was basically one of these:

It was an interesting battle as we ended up having to find ways of breaking through his armored "ball" form. This guy wasn't retarded though and tended not to open himself up, instead choosing to bulldoze his way through the building, this thing was most likely controlled by a rigger which sadly we never found.

My character ended up merging with a beast spirit in order to gain some speed and ability to dodge as well as gaining a spell from the combat school which came in very handy. I chose to use "Shatter" which is a spell designed to destroy objects. I used this to what I thought through out most of the fight was no avail. While my team did quite alot to take this guy down. Sheila spent her time on the high ground shooting at a giant chandelier to loosen the really large cords holding it to the ceiling. This chandelier was apparently (at sometime) meant to be raised and lowered because the wires were able to be controlled by Jen's character who was on the top floor of the building.

Earlier in the adventure we had found a maintenance room which contained a rivet gun, most likely used to keep that chandelier in good working order, and Rob thought it was cool so he kept it. Turns out that was an excellent plan as we were able to use that rivet gun to bolt the wires from the ceiling to this robot. Having Jen raise the wires it forced the robot to open it's arms allowing us to finally attack it's weaker areas. It turns out that my character had infact done something that whole time as well because when he opened up we all noticed that his left arm hydraulics had been severely damaged. The robot then proceeded to hit my character or Rob's (I forgot which) and pissed my guy off sending him into somewhat of a battle rage. I spun around and shattered the inside of the arm sending it flying off of the robot, ruining a plan that Rob had come up with to kill it.

After that we fought it some more but sadly had forgotten about the robots really large guns and now that it was open it had no issues with using them. Rob and I had no cover at all to save us from this attack and it near killed both of us. I was only barely staying awake and Rob had actually been knocked out (-1 HP).  At this point Sheila's character lost control and decided to do the scene from Ghost in the shell ripping the top of the robot apart until she found its "heart" with one of her blades and ripped it out. I was going to try and share a clip that pretty closely matched what happened but I couldnt find a good one and I remembered that the character was topless during that scene anyway so I guess not.

After the robot finally went down we started to relax a little but the building began to crumble. We ran out of the building as fast as we could and were just in time to not get killed by the crumbling building. Tom was even able to save a piece of the computer. (hopefully the tower, we dont know what we got) Reaching the outside we were greeted by about 30 dudes with assault rifles pointed at our heads. I passed out and I think that Rob did as well. Jen had been previously captured by them and was cuffed and thats where we left off in the session. So next session we get to find out who captured us and why.

Thats all for now. Thanks for reading.
